Warning: This article contains potentially heavy spoilers for the CW series The Flash!

Are you excited, Flash fans?

If you follow the popular CW series, you know that there are throw-away Flash villains introduced every week.

However, there are a few key standouts.

Most notably has of course been the cold-blooded criminal mastermind Captain Cold (played by Wentworth Miller) and the Reverse Flash (whose heavily speculated identity has apparently been revealed ).

However, there is another important Flash villain that had yet to make an appearance — until now.

Non-comic book fans are probably scratching their heads at why so much of social media erupted over the shadowy image of a gorilla in the sewer.

Well, it’s because ever since the very first episode (where we saw Gorilla Grodd’s empty cage), there was always the hope that the primate supervillain might actually feature on The Flash .

For those of you who don’t know, Grodd is a super intelligent, incredibly strong and agile arch-enemy of the Flash. Gorilla Grodd also had the ability to control minds.

It seems bizarre that the Flash has a furry non-human arch-nemesis, but given all the amazing things already part of the DC television universe, what’s wrong with adding an extremely intelligent and evil ape?

Interestingly enough, it appears that the Gorilla Grodd origin for the Flash show has shifted a bit to fit the narrative of meta-humans being created by the accident at Star Labs.

In the comics , Grodd was born in a city of apes. The gorilla gained his powers and heightened intelligence from a meteorite.

Of course, this was a bit much, even for the sometimes “cartoonish” nature of this live action Flash show. Fans of the comics will have to wait and see exactly what is similar and what has changed about the 600 lb. gorilla.

Also introduced during this episode was Linda Park, another Flash love interest.

Park’s appearance raised quite a few eyebrows, as fans know her as the future wife not of Barry Allen, but of Wally West.

Her seemingly early introduction makes some wonder whether or not we may eventually see Wally introduced on the show.

There’s reason to be optimistic.

After all, Iris West is the aunt of the comic book Wally West, who was mentored by Barry Allen.

Rather than disrupting things, Linda Park may be a clue to the future direction of The Flash .

What do you think Flash fans: Will Wally feature on the show? Also, how do you feel about Gorilla Grodd?
