Twitter And Facebook Status Down Now? Offline Server Glitch Has People Calling 911

Is Twitter down and Facebook down for you? Unfortunately, you are not alone. Reports on the Facebook status indicate there has been a total blackout for the Facebook servers in some areas. The situation felt so severe to some that people were calling 911 to report that Facebook is down now.

In a related report by the Inquisitr , when the PSN status went down, one person called 911 and the resulting conversation was recorded. In the end, the 911 dispatcher suggested the caller should “try going outside or read a book.”

According to DownDetector.com , the number of people reporting Facebook down has spiked dramatically in the last hour, although there have been problems throughout the day. About half of the Facebook users are reporting issues with logging in or posting photos, but the other half are experiencing a total blackout.

The same can be said for the Twitter status. It’s been going up and down throughout the day. Most people only see sluggishness in Twitter’s response, but some have literally received messages from their internet browser that the site took too long to respond, or the Twitter server did not respond at all.

With the Facebook status down at the moment, many Americans may be wondering what they should do with their lives now that the line has been cut temporarily. To some, apparently, this was a life emergency since they called 911 all about it.

“Our lines are [sic] dedicated to handle life and death calls, and even though Facebook is important to a lot of people, it’s not a matter of life and death when it stops working,” a dispatcher told CBS News . “One caller even called back to tell me I was being rude because I told her it wasn’t a life threatening emergency.”

The company has previously claimed the current problems with the Facebook status is caused by an internal glitch, not any hackers attempting to take Facebook down. Fortunately, as of this publishing, both the Twitter status and Facebook status seem to be good for at least this writer, although websites that track server outages indicate the problem is mostly occurring in North America and Europe.
