Phones, phones, and more phones. This year is no exception when it comes to new ones. Motorola is coming out with their next generation Droid, the Droid 4, in the following weeks.

Yesterday, the company also revealed details about the Droid Razr Maxx , a smartphone very similar to the Droid Razr, but with double the battery life.

Keep in mind that the Droid 4 will be available exclusively on Verizon, something that has been the case since the very first smartphone in the series. Compared to the previous version, consumers can expect it to be much faster as well as sport a thinner design.

The specs:

  • 4 inch qHD display
  • 540×960 resolution
  • 1.2GHZ dual core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage, microSD card slot
  • Full QWERTY keyboard as expected
  • 0.5 inches thick
  • 8 megapixel camera with ability to shoot 1080p video
  • 4G LTE support
  • Shipping with Android 2.3.5, though Android 4.0 upgrade coming second quarter 2012

The Droid line of smartphones continue to be a popular seller as there’s still a sizeable group of people who prefer a full keyboard versus a completely touchscreen keyboard.

Frankly, that’s one of the big things that is potentially keeping BlackBerry users from switching over to say Android or iPhone, though the latter two have the most market share and more are switching everyday.

From Forbes:

“Motorola’s Droid 4 joins an impressive catalog of LTE capable phones on Verizon’s network. The Motorola Razr, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and HTC Rezound share the spotlight in the carrier’s catalog, but the Droid 4 has one feature that sets its apart. The device is one of the best and only options for users looking for a high-end device with a QWERTY keyboard.”
