Nikon, the maker of high quality cameras and lenses, announced their new professional DSLR camera, the D4. This appears to be in response to Canon’s 1D X. As with any professional camera in the marketplace, be prepared to shell out some dough, $6000 for just the body to be more precise.

Data is always a big thing when it comes to professional photography and the need to store hundreds, even thousands of photos from your shoots. Nikon has customers covered with dual memory card slots, not to mention support for UDMA-7 CF cards as well as the new standard debuting from Sony in February, XQD which allows for incredibly fast read/write times.

From USA Today:

“The camera will also include 1080/30p video recording with H.264 compression with the option to use B-frame encoding. The result should be an option for slightly smaller file sizes than seen with Canon’s video compression algorithms, but disappointingly for some workflows Nikon will only allow for up to 20 minutes per clip.”

And for those photographers who use their camera to shoot video, particularly 1080p HD, can enjoy the fact that the Nikon D4 will have full, clean, and uncompressed video output. Get the best quality out of your camera, every single time.

The specs:

  • 16.2-megapixel large-size CMOS image sensor
  • ISO with expansion to an astounding 204,800 rating
  • Take up to 10 shots per second
  • Advanced Multi-Cam 3500 AF system
  • 91,000-pixel RGB 3D Color Matrix metering system
  • Full 1080p HD video recording at 24 or 30fps OR 720p at 60fps
  • 30 different audio adjustments to capture the perfect sound
