The futuristic super-yacht that Steve Jobs commissioned before his death, the Venus , was spotted over the weekend in the British Virgin Islands, making waves as pictures of the elusive vessel found their way online.

The 256-foot-long ship was proposed by Jobs in 2008, a few years after he was first diagnosed with cancer, according to the Daily Mail . After relaxing on his friend Larry Ellison’s boat, Jobs decided he wanted a vessel of his own, and contacted famed designer Phillippe Starck to help create the Venus . In addition, he hired the chief designer of the Apple Stores, who contributed the yacht’s structural glass.

The vessel was spotted in the waters off Norman Island this weekend, prompting vacationers to post images of it online. An Instagram account used by a Cape Cod establishment, Woods Hole Inn, posted photos of the yacht floating in a pristine blue sea.

“Ok, I’ll become a Bond villain,” the caption read.

Starck detailed the yacht’s creation in an interview with Vanity Fair last year, elaborating on the ship’s inner workings. The captain navigates by using a row of 27-inch iMacs, and the Venus contains six separate bedrooms, all of them identical. Despite the yacht’s size, Starck noted that he was inspired by the same minimalist designs that Jobs was known to favor.

“I’ve tried to be inspired by the Asian idea that emptiness is more important than fullness,” he wrote in Starck explications .

Jobs bestowed one other requirement upon Starck: silence. A crucial factor in Jobs’ life, maintaining silence was so important to him that it factored into the yacht’s design.

“Steve wanted to be sure that the teenagers could be set up in the front of the boat when he was at the back and vice-versa. He was obsessed with silence. In his home, children did not make noise, nor the dog, nor his wife… no one made any noise, ever.”

Unfortunately, fate would keep Jobs from ever stepping foot on the yacht. The Venus was completed in 2012, a year after he fell victim to pancreatic cancer, as the Inquisitr previously reported. Steve Jobs’ widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, maintains ownership of the yacht, which has been regularly spotted in other tropic locations around the globe.
