Former Oasis leader Noel Gallagher has revealed a new song, “Do the Damage,” in the run-up to the release of his new record Chasing Yesterday .

The B-side to the album’s first single, “In the Heat of the Moment,” Gallagher originally considered the song for the album, before other material presented itself, as NME notes.

“‘Do The Damage’? It might be the 23rd best song I ever wrote,” Gallagher noted. “It was – for about a year – gonna be the opening track on the album until the 22nd best song I ever wrote appeared.”

The song will also appear on the deluxe edition of Gallagher’s upcoming album, his second with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Details of the album were released last month, as the Inquisitr previously noted. Chasing Yesterday also features former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who performs alongside Gallagher on “Ballad of the Mighty I.”

As Consequence of Sound notes, Gallagher’s new album has been described as rich, expansive, and diverse. They describe “Do the Damage” as representing the more celestial side of the new album, singling out Noel’s vocal delivery as a highlight of the B-side.

“Gallagher’s rocket ship to the stars is led by a thick, undulating bassline, which moves with the power and force of any space cruiser. From there, the band supplements that groove with thick spurts of guitar, explosive organ, and plenty of thudding drums. The piece de resistance, however, is Gallagher himself, whose more hushed vocal approach really enhances the song’s explosive nature.”

Rumors of an Oasis reunion were recently rekindled as Gallagher’s brother, Liam, shuttered his own band, Beady Eye. Noel has expressly denied any reunion will take place in 2015, however, citing his schedule and creative fulfillment with High Flying Birds. Gallagher’s upcoming UK arena tour sold out in just 10 minutes when tickets became available last month.

In a recent interview with Noisey , Gallagher shared his insights into the current state of the music industry, lamenting the devaluation of music in the public consciousness. Comparing the price of an album to that of two coffees, Gallagher marveled at the hesitancy of consumers to pay for music.

“It fascinates me and infuriates me that people are more willing to sit in a coffee shop and spend a tenner on two coffees and talk about the weather to their friends, and that coffee will last 45 minutes. Yet they will physically get angry at you for asking if you’d buy an album for a tenner which will last a lifetime, and might even tell you something about yourself, and might even change your life, or how you dress or the outlook on everything.”
