While some people are excited about the most recent iPhone and Samsung Galaxy models of smartphones , many of those in the know are comparing the HTC One M8 to the HTC One E8, and considering several factors to determine which model of one of the most premium cell phones in today’s market might be best for them.
The HTC One M8 differs from the E8 model in several important ways. The differences come down to production and material quality, camera, and initial memory on the device.
- The E8 only comes in a 16g version off the shelf, while the HTC One M8 available with both 16g and 32g cards. Either phone can accept a removable memory card of up to 128g, however, so the initial memory consideration is just what’s on the phone initially.
- There is a large difference in cameras between the HTC One M8 and the E8. The E8 comes outfitted with a standard rear 13 megapixel camera, like most cell phones on the market. The M8, however, comes with “duo camera” setup. According to TechRadar , this feature is misnamed, as there are not actually two cameras equipped on the M8. There is a secondary sensor on the HTC One M8 which allows the camera to gather additional information about depth and embeds it into the photo. This means that the user can change the focus of the picture after the fact, and perform rudimentary Photoshop type tasks, like swapping backgrounds, or editing people into or out of pictures.
- The HTC One M8 is designed using lightweight aluminum compounds with a uni-body chassis; the E8 is made of polycarbonate. The E8 tends to look less “premium” than the M8. It also means that the two phones come in different colors; the M8 is available in arctic silver, metal gray, and amber gold, while the E8 is available in electric crimson, misty grey, polar white, and Maldive blue.
When you get into the nitty gritty of the phone’s function, the HTC One M8 and E8 perform similarly.

Reports on Twitter indicate that the HTC One M8 will be coming to both AT&T and T-Mobile in November.
CNET reported last week that the success of the HTC One M8 had, in large part, helped HTC avoid a second summer of painful losses. The Desire smartphone was also a key factor. HTC reported expecting to see profits between NT$43 billion and NT$47 billion.
