John Stamos has a reputation as one of the smoothest guys in Hollywood and Amy Poehler is undoubtedly one of the funniest, so you would think the two would make a pretty good couple, right?
Wrong.
This week, Poehler recounted to Howard Stern the disastrous date the two shared after she split with husband Will Arnett. Poehler explained that the two seemed to get along nicely when they went on a group outing after working on a movie together, but when they tried to rendezvous alone, things took a turn for the worse.
As Amy Poehler explained, her choice of wardrobe set the tone for the evening:
“We worked on a movie. He did a little bit in a movie that I did and a bunch of us hung out. And then later on he’s like, ‘Let’s go get dinner.’ And it was fine. I remember thinking like, ‘Oh, s**t. Like, if this is really a date …’ I think I was wearing a Leslie Knope top. I think I was wearing a shirt from work.””
It wasn’t just John Stamos , Pohler explained. After she split with Arnett in 2013, Poehler said she wasn’t very well equipped for the dating world.
“It was new and weird,” she said. “I hadn’t dated when there was texting. I got married in 2003 and all of a sudden I’m like, ‘Oh, right now you text somebody.’ That was new. There were times when I was out with guys and I was like, ‘Oh, I think I might be on a date, but I don’t know.’”
But Amy figured it out soon enough.
“You just kind of weed that out pretty fast, but I haven’t really had that experience. I’ve usually dated people that I have been friends with, and I’m dating someone now,” she said.
Amy Poehler said she is happy with her boyfriend, comedian and fellow Parks and Recreation actor Nick Kroll, so she won’t be looking at John Stamos as “the one that got away.”
