David Ayer’s latest film, Fury , debuted in the United State on October 17 and has already landed an 81 percent “tomatometer” score from all critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The Audience Score has been extremely promising as well, hovering at 90 percent after the weekend. Users on the Internet Movie Database have graced the film with an 8.3 out of 10 score.

The film set in the World War II era stars Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, and Michael Peña. These soldiers go by their wartime monikers of Wardaddy, Bible, and Gordo. Filming for the military camps and fights took place across England; in Dorset, Oxfordshire, and London. The two-hour and fifteen-minute flick earned $23.5 million at the box office, making it the fourthth most successful WWII film opening, according to The Hollywood Reporter . Pitt has also starred in the second most successful WWII film, Inglourious Basterds .

Shia LeBeouf is nearly unrecognizable as a lean and mustachioed soldier named “Bible.” A Daily Mail article published back in January 2014 alleges that LeBeouf experimented with some extreme method acting techniques. An anonymous source told the publication that “He pulled his own tooth during the first few weeks of filming and then refused to shower for weeks on end so he could better understand how his character would have felt living in the trenches”

In a conversation with Jimmy Kimmel, LeBeouf explained regarding his tooth, “I got it removed for the movie….That was a real mission, getting it taken out too. It’s not like you can go to some dentist…” LeBeouf explained that he has since replaced the tooth with a false one.

The United States 2nd Armored division, also known as “Hell On Wheels,” provides the real life inspiration for Fury . These soldiers were involved in global conflicts that took place in Sicily, North Africa, Belgium, and France. In the Fury trailer, Pitt’s character describes fighting German soldiers in Africa and Germany. Moviegoers and history buffs will get a kick out of the Tiger 131 shown in the film, the only operating German Tiger tank left in the world. Its full title is the “Panzerkampfwagen VI, Tiger I.” The Tiger 131 was captured by the Allies in Tunisia. BBC News explains that Fury is the tank’s feature film debut . They also report that Brad Pitt expressed hope that the film “respectfully recognized” soldiers involved in WWII.

Fury is currently out in U.S. theaters, and it will be released worldwide throughout upcoming months.
