Australian startup Torian Wireless has announced a deal with Blaupunkt that will see the worlds first* internet car radios go on sale this year.
Melbourne based Torian Wireless offers an internet radio platform under the miRover brand that can be added to car radios, mobile devices and audio-video equipment including televisions.
miRoamer acts as a database of services containing streaming URLs, providing end users with the ability to search for stations from all over the world, whilst allowing Torian to customize which devices will receive which services. While an internet car radio may be unlimited, content might be constrained in certain devices for child protection, or for services in hotel chains.
The company has investment from Novus Capital but is looking for additional money to continue its expansion.
The Blauplunkt units notably don’t rely on their own internet connection, but data share via bluetooth with a compatible mobile phone.
The units will go on sale in the United States in the second half of this year, details on other countries isn’t available at the time of publication.
