Gucci Mane Gets 1 Year Knocked Off His Prison Sentence

Gucci Mane was originally sentenced to three years in prison on a gun charge. Fortunately for the rapper, the amount of time he’ll spend behind bars just got a little shorter.

The Inquisitr reported that the rapper — whose real name is Radric Davis — would spend quite a bit of time cooling his heels in a cramped prison cell after a judge found him guilty of a federal gun possession charge earlier this summer. At the time of the sentencing, reports suggested Gucci Man would begin his three-year stint on August 2014.

Judge Jones also offered up the following words of encouragement.

“You’re a young man, You have a full life before you. I see a lot of famous people move outside the line. [Y]ou’re going to wake up one morning broke. You’re going to wake up one morning back in prison. [A]ccording to young people, my nieces and nephews, you are quite cool.”

However, Mane’s lawyer argued that the rapper’s sentence should technically begin at the time of his arrest. According to TMZ , Gucci had already spent roughly 11 months under lock and key. After taking a moment to ponder the situation, a judge declared Mane’s sentence will begin when he was originally picked up by police. In other words, the rapper is getting out of prison in December of 2016 as opposed to 2017.

However, Rolling Stone reports that the state of Georgia wants to keep a close eye on Gucci Mane when his prison stint comes to a close. In fact, the rapper can’t spend more than one week per month outside of Georgia’s borders. In other words, any hopes for a world tour are effectively squashed until his probation runs its course.

Sadly, this isn’t Gucci Mane’s first brush with the law. TMZ points out that the rapper is well-versed in the ways of the U.S. penal system.

“The 34-year-old’s been in and out of prison most of his adult life… with prior stints for hitting a fan with a bottle and pushing a woman out of a moving car. He was even charged with murder in 2005… but prosecutors ultimately dropped the case.”

In fact, someone was kind enough to assemble a collage of his mugshots.
