Jadeveon Clowney suffered an injury against the Washington Redskins that could require surgery and keep the top draft pick out for quite some time.
The team’s outside linebacker suffered a torn meniscus against the Washington Redskins on Sunday, one that ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter said will likely require arthroscopic surgery .
Clowney went down late in the second quarter after landing awkwardly on the ground. He went to the locker room with a trainer before halftime, looking visibly angry at the circumstances.
Sources say Jadeveon Clowney will undergo additional testing Monday to determine the extent of the injury.
“We’re consulting with doctors and trainers right now,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “I’m not sure about the status, but I will say right now that they think it’s a good prognosis, so it looks like he’s going to be OK. He may miss some time, he may not. Who knows? We’ll know better as the week goes on.”
The Houston Chronicle reported that Clowney could miss up to four weeks as he recovers. If true, it would represent a blow to the Texans, who look to rely heavily on Clowney in what could be a competitive AFC South.
As the top pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, Jadeveon Clowney was expected to have an immediate impact in Houston. But he has been plagued by injuries early in his NFL career, including a sports hernia in June that required surgery and kept him out of some offseason work. Clowney also suffered a concussion on a helmet to helmet hit in a preseason game.
In Sunday’s contest he showed flashes of his ability, getting into the backfield, and dropping wide receiver DeSean Jackson for a nine yard loss on an end around.
The Houston Texans are expected to give more information about the Jadeveon Clowney injury on Monday.
