After the sudden death of her husband Robin Williams, Susan Schneider expressed her heartbreak in a public statement:

“This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief.”

Robin Williams’ publicists explained Monday that the actor has been battling major depression. At many times in his life, he struggled with addiction. “It waits. It lays in wait for the time when you think, ‘It’s fine now, I’m OK.’ Then, the next thing you know, it’s not OK,” Williams told Diane Sawyer in an interview on Good Morning America in 2006 , before his marriage to Susan Schneider.

Last month, The Hollywood Reporter said that Williams checked himself into a renewal center to help with his emotional well-being. Even knowing this, the much of the world gasped while reading the news Monday of the actor’s apparent suicide. Williams’ wife Susan Schneider validated our loss as she expressed her own heartbreak. Her husband was so beloved that millions sincerely mourn over his death.

RIP @robinwilliams ? Amazing actor, fantastic stand-up comedian. You, I will actually miss. #RobinWilliams pic.twitter.com/zwkc6BOPWR

Twitter trends Monday night were not limited to “RIP Robin Williams.” Also trending are the terms: “What Dreams May Come,” Mork & Mindy,” “Good Morning Vietnam,” “The Birdcage,” “World’s Greatest Dad” and a shortened quote from Dead Poets Society, “Oh Captain.” Twitter is seemingly trending with nothing but memories of Robin Williams.

Monday night, it’s as though the world has paused. As trends update, the sentiment stays the same:

This speaks for itself. Be at peace in the land what dreams may come, Mr. Robin Williams. pic.twitter.com/fMIFd44osi — Nathan Sullivan (@TheNabobDecaf) August 12, 2014

I pray you find laughter like we did through you, and see what beauty lives, what dreams may come. #RobinWillams pic.twitter.com/PA4uCtLO5R — Oona Chaplin (@OonaCC) August 12, 2014

Susan Schneider, within her own grief, kindly acknowledged that the world also deeply mourns the loss of her husband. It was clear she understood her husband impacted the world so profoundly that Robin’s passing will become one of those rare, historic, tragic events that millions will remember in solidarity. People will ask, “Where were you when you heard the news about Robin Williams’ death?”

People will remember.

Williams said of his wife Susan, “I’m the luckiest man in the world… Being with a comedian, living with a comedian, is like keeping a chimp for a pet. You know we’re kind of cute but after a little while, (you get thrown out). So, if you find someone who goes, ‘OK I really like you,’ You go, ‘You like me?’ She’s gorgeous and so sweet. Oh, she’s beautiful.”

In her public statement, Susan Schneider expressed the family’s wish for her husband’s fans:

“As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”

Let’s remember the characters brought to life, not the story’s tragic end. RIP Robin Williams, Pan the Man pic.twitter.com/DTDceYdOIM
