Just in case you didn’t know, musician Lana Del Rey is a pretty big deal right now. If she isn’t making special appearances on Instagram with James Franco , then she’s promoting her brand new album Ultraviolence , which is currently heating up the charts.
Being such a hot commodity really puts a singer under a microscope, allowing people to analyze everything that person does to who they tweet about to who they’re currently dating. While some artist’s retreat and go into hiding, Lana Del Rey is refreshingly candid — almost too candid at times.
During an interview with Fashion magazine, Del Rey revealed the reason behind her split with her ex-boyfriend Barrie James O’Neill. While her dark video for the aptly titled “Dark Paradise” may give people a few hints, Del Rey had this to say of their split:
“I’m a dark character and he is an even darker character than I am.”
The fact that Lana is dark doesn’t surprise us, as it is, she’s already racking up a few enemies for romanticizing about her own death . The fact that she’s willing to put that connotation on a failed relationship is somewhat shocking though. Del Rey continues to delve into why it didn’t work out with her ex:
“Trying to get some consistency and some normality within the dynamic of that relationship has been impossible.”
She continued to say that Barrie is “unwell” and that she too is “unwell in some ways.” While she remained vague about that part, the “Shades of Cool” singer did say, “Psychologically we’ve been through a lot together.”
Although she explained herself as a dark character, aside from her failed relationship, she does seem to be at least a bit optimistic about her love life.
“I would love to find someone I could share my life with and be married to. I would love children, too. Hopefully they’re not as bad as I am.”
In the meantime, if you believe all those rumors and Instagram posts, it seems like Lana is really enjoying her time with meta-actor James Franco. The two have been hanging out in the Rockaways, and it appears the two held an impromptu photo shoot on the beach one day. Additionally, she also turned up in New York City to support the actor for his film Child of God . We’ll see how this relationship goes. Let’s hope Lana stays away from the dark and finds some light in her life.
