‘Assassin’s Creed: Unity’ Gameplay Trailer Released With ‘Inside The Revolution’ [Videos]

The new Assassin’s Creed: Unity gameplay trailer is here, alongside a second entitled “Inside the Revolution.” The first one shows off accolades the game has already received, probably from E3. The second details what the French Revolution is about, at least according to Ubisoft’s release this Fall.

The gameplay trailer is typical fare, with a little more revealed with in-game visuals and a description of what revolution is usually about.

Arno speaks with an accent that sounds surprisingly un-French, considering how previous games at least used an accent befitting the location. Assassin’s Creed used a relatively Jerusalem-styled accent, AC2 Italian, AC3 British and Native American, and so on. Arno seems a little too Americanized to be a believable character in the middle of the time and place he claims to be describing.

As Arno explains it, the people in power are hoarding all of the wealth while the peasants starve, and it’s his plan to fight back.

The second Assassin’s Creed: Unity trailer gives us more of a history lesson from the perspective of the hero. The people starve for food, liberty, and justice in Paris of 1789 as the crooked Aristocracy lives in ignorance. “King Louis the 16th ignores his desperate subjects while his queen would have them eat cake,” the trailer says, but it’s unclear exactly what the second part means.

If they have cake, they aren’t really starving: It’s still food.

Eventually the people had enough and began to fight back. Unfortunately the first revolution didn’t work so well, as a handful of the people seized power and controlled the rest. We will assume that this handful were the Templars, because the trailer mentions hidden powers controlling everything and maintaining a reign of terror. It was an Assassin who ended up bringing them down from the shadows.

Why there are no women mentioned as at least helpful aides seems suspicious, especially after Ubisoft’s regular accusations of racism and sexism this year.

While the newest Assassin’s Creed: Unity trailers give us more insight into the game, we still wonder what Ubisoft plans to announce for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
