Chrysler announced that it will be offering mobile wireless router in its car fleet this August, making it the first automaker in the U.S. to allow passengers to connect to the Internet. This service will be made possible via UConnect Web, a router that can access a 3G cellular network and would allow those inside the car to connect through WiFi. Seems easy.
The router will be sold for $449.00. Installation will cost within the range of $35.00 to $50.00, and monthly Internet subscription will set you back by $29.00.
The service will be offered first as a dealer-installed accessory and will be an option for all new Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles in September.
This may be cutting-edge in the automotive industry but the router’s cost is prohibitive. The installation cost is uncool because they should just give it away for free (especially if you’re buying a new car). The monthly fee is unreal since you will not be staying in your car 24×7 anyway.
Internet aside, I guess I would stick to my Honda Element. Besides, who wants to drive a car nowadays given the skyrocketing cost of gas.
