Matthew Cowles, best known for is role as Billy Clyde Tuggle on All My Children , has died at age 69.
The actor worked for more than four decades on the daytime soap opera, earning two Emmy nominations. He passed away on Thursday, but word trickled out within the next day.
On Friday morning, manager Tsu Tsu Stanton remembered Matthew Cowles on Twitter.
“He was a very gifted and kind man who loved life and everyone,” she wrote.
Former All My Children writer Jean Passanante also mourned Cowles’ death, tweeting that she was “so sad to hear about the death of Matthew Cowles… a sweet man and a uniquely talented actor.”

Aside from his work on All My Children , Matthew Cowles also appeared on the HBO prison drama Oz and had a role in the 2010 movie Shutter Island .
Cowles had a career spanning many decades, with bit parts in the 1970s show Kojak and the 1980s hit Miami Vice . He also appeared on Law & Order in 1991. On the big screen he was best known for playing the trainer for the minor-league Charlestown Chiefs in the 1977 movie Slapshot.
Matthew Cowles shared the screen with some legends as well. His first movie was the 1969 comedy drama Me, Natalie , a film that also marked the debut of Al Pacino.
Cowles had experience on the stage as well, appearing in several Broadway plays and writing several, including Mexican Standoff at Fat Squaw Springs , Our Daily Bread , and Noblesse Oblige .
He was also known as the husband of The Good Wife star Christine Baranski. The couple had been married for 30 years and had two children together.
The cause of death for Matthew Cowles was not immediately available.
