Twitter Rolls Out Redesigned Profile Pages For Select Users

Twitter has rolled out a new design for its profile pages for a select group of users around the globe. This is the same user interface that Twitter was testing back in February. In a blog post announcing the redesign, Twitter says that the new web profile lets the user choose a larger profile picture and customize the header. Users would also be able to show off their best tweets and even pin specific tweets which they think needs to be highlighted. The Twitter blog posts talks about three key features of the updated profile page starting with…

Best Tweets

The best tweets algorithm will make tweets that have received more engagement appear larger than the others. This will ensure that the best content put out by you is easier to find for your followers and people browsing through your profile.

Pinned Tweet

Like mentioned earlier, with the new Twitter interface, you can choose to pin a tweet of your choice that you think needs a wider audience and needs to be prominently shown.

Filtered Tweets

With this option users can clear out a lot of unwanted clutter. You can choose to browse just tweets, tweets with videos/photos or simply tweets and replies. While the idea of Twitter with the redesign is to make things simpler, it might take a few days for people to get used to the new profile design.

This is how the new redesigned Twitter profile page would look to a logged in user.

The new Twitter profile page also has some kind of similarity to that of Facebook’s profile page if you notice carefully. This factor might not appeal to people who are active on Twitter and are not on Facebook because of its design. In the new Twitter profile page, users get a square profile photo in the top left. There is an option to add a large header photo at the top – akin to Facebook’s cover photo option. Below the profile photo, you will find basic information about the Twitter user. Further down is a collage of all the videos and photos the user had uploaded and shared using Twitter.

Another thing I noticed about the new Profile page is the total disconnect it has with other pages of Twitter. For example, if you choose to navigate to the “Home” section or the “notifications” option, you will see that these sections continue to use the older UI elements. Only the “Me” page has changed.

Twitter users can now pin a specific Tweet they wish to highlight.

Twitter is rolling out the new UI to users across the globe. In case your profile has been upgraded, you will get a notification regarding the same the next time you login to Twitter via your web browser.

Some of the celebrities who already have the new profile pages include:

  • Film stars @zacefron and @channingtatum
  • French TV host @nikosaliagas
  • Australian Football League @AFL
  • First Lady Michelle Obama @flotus
  • Brazilian singer, guitarist, and songwriter @gilbertogil
  • Boxer @FloydMayweather
  • TV star @kerrywashington
  • Musicians @JohnLegend and band @weezer

What do you think about this new updated Profile page redesign by Twitter?
