Flavor Flav has a temporary reprieve in his felony speeding case in New York, but the former Public Enemy entertainer could still be looking at prison time.

The rapper and reality television star traveled to a Nassau County court on Tuesday on felony speeding charges, but left with no resolution. Flavor Flav told reporters that he hoped to resolve the case, but instead the proceedings were postponed until May 16.

Police have accused the rapper, whose real name is William Drayton, of speeding and driving without a license. He was pulled over on Meadowbrook Parkway, going 79 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.

Flavor Flav said he was on the way to his mother’s funeral , and ultimately praised officers who made strides to get him to the funeral in a timely manner.

“I’m hoping they would have a heart and dismiss it all because of the circumstances,” he said. “Because if it wasn’t for me driving to my mother’s funeral and being late getting to my mother’s funeral, I wouldn’t have been behind the wheel in the first place to get the charge.”

But the trouble is not over for Flavor Flav. Drayton also faces felony assault and other charges in Las Vegas after allegedly threatening the teenage son of his longtime girlfriend. The trial was originally slated to begin last year, but again the case was delayed.

Flavor Flav pleaded not guilty to felony assault with a weapon and child endangerment charges.

Police said Flav and his girlfriend, former reality star Elizabeth Trujilo, were fighting about allegations that he was cheating. The confrontation grew physical, and Trujilo’s son then got involved, police say. The teen testified that Flavor Flav chased him around the house with a knife, threatening his life .

Flavor Flav faces up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
