Warning: If you have not seen the most recent episode of Pretty Little Liars , you may not want to read any further. Spoilers are ahead.
Through the recent week’s episodes, we have made one shocking discovery after another on ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars . Up until Tuesday night’s episode, the writers had lead us to believe that Aria’s love, and teacher, Ezra was the infamous A. However, fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief when it was revealed that he was not A, and had never even been a part of A’s team.
Spencer revealed to Aria that Ezra was A after the rest of the group cornered her about her use of pills to stay awake. Spencer shouted, “Ezra is freakin A!” Aria did not want to believe Spencer’s shocking confession, but she later started to become suspicious as well.
Aria later finds herself alone with Ezra on a broken chairlift. She’s obviously upset, after uncovering his secret loft, and pages from Ezra’s book about Ali. Ezra tries to comfort her by explaining that all he was ever doing was working on a tell-all book about Alison DiLaurentis’ disappearance.
Executive producer, Marlene King chatted exclusively with E! News about Ezra’s role in the television series.
“Ezra is not A, but he is a pretty little liar.” King said. “So now it’s going to be about what his true intentions were. Was he doing this for greed? Did this turn into something else? Was he helping the girls ultimately? You know, time will tell but I think that betrayal is betrayal.”
King reveals that Ezra never was A. “He’s never worn the hoodie,” she said.
Lucy Hale, who plays Aria, admitted that she loved filming the emotionally-fueled scene. “Girl goes a little crazy,” Hale said. “You get to see Aria really angry. She’s upset about a lot of things. She has pent-up feelings and bottled emotions, and somewhere in the middle of the season, girlfriend just loses it.”
King explains that Hale was ready for viewers to see another side of Aria that they had never seen before. “As this realization hits her, her reaction is just what naturally comes out,” King said . “Lucy Hale loved the idea of that scene and she really embraced it. She felt like it was such a truthful and organic reaction to what Aria was feeling.”
