Paul Walker, who died in a tragic car accident in November last year, was best known for his character Brian O’Conner in the Fast And Furious films.
Due to his untimely passing, the makers of Fast and Furious 7 , originally planned for April 2015, have been left scrambling to rewrite scripts and change plots in order to accommodate the new reality.
Kurt Russell, who was cast to play a father figure in Brian O’Conner’s life in the film, spoke to reporters at the Sundance Film Festival where he was promoting the documentary The Battered Bastards of Baseball .
Russell said about the situation with the upcoming Fast and Furious movie : “They’re having to rewrite, they’re having to do whatever they’re having to do to deal with the situation. It’s catastrophic. It’s the worst thing that could happen to a movie. But it’s not as bad as what happened to Paul.”
He went on to speak about the fact things need to of course be in perspective: “So everything is in perspective. He was a terrific guy. And life is full of curveballs. It’s just a situation that they’ll work out and, at that time, I’ll go back to work. I don’t know what is going to happen with that. It’s obviously a difficult situation.” he said.
Russell, who refused to say the name of his character in the film , concluded: “Whether or not this guy dies off in the movie, we don’t know. That may have changed now significantly too.”
It remains to be seen what will happen with the new Fast and Furious 7 movie as screenwriters try to remodel the story in order to deal with the reality that Paul Walker will not be featuring as Brian O’Conner in the film.
