The latest Nokia Lumia 1020 update looks to improve upon what many already consider the best photo/video smartphone camera on the market. The “Black” update brings shooting photos and video to the already impressive 41 megapixel Windows 8 phone.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 camera features pictures in 7152 x 5368 pixels, a 1/1.5? sensor size, optical image stabilization technology, and Xenon & LED flash. When compared to the Apple iPhone 5S’ 8MP shooter with 3264 x 2448 pixels, auto-focus functionality, and LED flash, the Lumia 1020 camera already outshines the world’s best selling smart phone.
But with the new Black update, smartphone photographers are able to get even better quality photos for editing with access to RAW footage. Other improvements to the Nokia Lumia 1020 include screen rotation lock, custom ringtones for specific kinds of notifications, and simplified app closing. The fantastic camera is now also complimented by new camera apps that allow users to access even more editing features.

Unfortunately, the outstanding photography and videography captured on the Lumia 1020 can not make up for its slow processing speeds and performance. The latest Samsung and Apple phones are still touted as far superior when it comes to usable functionality . That doesn’t mean the Nokia Lumia 1020 isn’t a good phone, it is just limited in scope. Part of that has to do with the Windows 8 operating system, but it also received low marks for its “feel” and processing speeds.
