Google Nexus 5 Goes On Pre-Order At Sprint For $49.99 [Photos]

Sprint Wireless on Friday announced the arrival of Google Nexus 5 pre-orders. The device is expected to arrive on customer doorsteps by November 8.

Sprint is offering the Google Nexus 5 in both white and black coloring for only $49.99 if you switch to Sprint. Current Sprint customers can pick up the device for a slightly more hefty $149.99.

Both options require a two-year Sprint Wireless contract, which is accompanied by a mobile data plan.

The Google Nexus 5 will start with shipments to Sprint and T-Mobile customers in the United States. The unlocked device will also work on the AT&T mobile network if purchased through the Google Play store.

T-Mobile is not yet accepting pre-orders, but the company has setup a pre-registration page where you can enter your email and receive updates as they are made available.

The Google Nexus 5 is the first smartphone to ship directly with the new Google Android 4.4 KitKat OS. It also features a 2.3 GHz Quad-core processor, 2GB RAM/16GB ROM, and a 2300 mAh Embedded Li-Polymer battery.

Throw in 3G, 4G LTE, and Wi-Fi data access, along with other standard options, such as Bluetooth and GPS, and you have a nice device for a very moderate price.

The best part about the Google Nexus 5 may be its use of a barebones Google Android 4.4 KitKat OS. Google, when releasing its own branded smartphones, doesn’t rely on a Samsung or HTC styled skins to hide the Android platform.

If you plan on picking up the Google Nexus 5 , be aware that Google often runs out of stock in the Google Play store, and the devices are likely to go quickly from Sprint and T-Mobile.

Sorry Verizon Wireless customers, but no plans have been announced for a CDMA version for use on your wireless carrier’s network.
