Roseburg Shooting: Two Killed In Oregon Shooting, Suspect Still At Large

A Roseburg shooting has left two people dead, and another injured, with police frantically searching for the shooter.

The incident took place on Tuesday night, when police say a man opened fire on three people just north of Roseburg, Oregon. Two of them were killed and the other wounded. There is no word on the extent of the third person’s injuries, but reports say the victim was taken to nearby Mercy Medical Center.

On Wednesday, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin said that the suspect had left the area and that there was no longer a danger to residents. Sheriff’s deputies continued to canvas the area and look for clues as to where the shooter went.

“We’re relatively comfortable saying there is no threat remaining here today. We’re making the presumption the person responsible for this crime is out of the area,” Hanlin said.

After the shooting, local schools remained open while police searched for the suspect, department officials added.

The Roseburg shooting manhunt drew on all of the department’s resources.

“We used K9’s, we used marked units, un-marked units, people on foot, and so, we feel very comfortable at this point that the suspect in this case is not here locally,” said Lt. Curt Strickland.

The shooting was part of an uptick in violence in Jackson County, which Clinical Psychologist Dr. Douglas Col thinks is due in part to a “changing” community.

“It’s like living in a neighborhood and only having your friends from far away over and never actually getting to know the people living right next to you. So the whole notion of community is going away,” said Dr. Col.

The Roseburg shooting suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his 40s, who was last seen wearing a dark-colored hoodie.
