Nadia Bloom, an 11-year-old girl who has been missing in a Florida swamp for five days, has been found in surprisingly good condition by volunteer searchers.
Bloom, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, is reportedly suffering from “bug bites” and dehydration, and it is said she was found in “waist deep water.” The young girl was reportedly located by James King, a member of the Metro Faith Church. Bloom originally set off on her bike, and is thought to have been inspired by an “American Girl” book to explore nature:
The child was last seen riding her bicycle, which was recovered and became the center point of a two-mile search radius. Her sister told police Nadia was carrying a video camera in her backpack and may have set out to film a nature movie.
There has also been speculation she was mimicking behavior of an 11-year-old girl from the book “Lanie,” featuring an outdoorsy character.
The rescue effort was impeded by dense brush unreachable by helicopter near Winter Springs, FL, but the girl was given an IV and lifted out by 15 volunteers.
