King County SWAT surrounded an underground bunker in Washington state for almost an entire day prior to using explosives to blow their way inside, where officers discovered the body of a man believed to be that of survivalist Peter Keller.
Authorities suspect 41-year-old Keller of killing his daughter and wife before setting the family’s house ablaze. His 18-year-old daughter Kaylene and 41-year-old wife Lynnettee were found shot to death in their home in North Bend, Washington.
Keller is believed to have allocated roughly eight years carving an elaborate bunker into the rugged terrain of Rattlesnake Ridge, located in the Cascade Mountains.
Authorities searched for the heavily armed survivalist for nearly one week prior to discovering his elaborated underground bunker.
After he allegedly barricaded himself inside of an underground bunker, sheriff’s SWAT officers eventually decided to utilize explosives to blow the roof off the bunker at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday in order to gain an access point, after negotiations had failed, King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Katie Larson told The Times. The alternative access point was quite possibly created in order to avoid potentially booby-trapped entrances.
Upon entering the multilevel bunker, officers discovered a man, believed to be Peter Keller, dead. While deputies were unable to immediately identify the body as that of Keller, they did convey that the man had died from what appeared to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
While the details of this story continue to come to light, we can’t be sure that the man dead from an apparent suicide was indeed the survivalist Peter Keller.
