Jennette McCurdy is opening up about the tension with her Sam & Cat co-star Ariana Grande, saying that the two had “sisterly” spats and nothing like the bad blood portrayed in the media.
Sources had claimed that McCurdy was upset that Grande was making more money, leading to tension building and the show ultimately going on hiatus.
Now Jennette McCurdy is clearing the air, telling E! News that she and Grande are still good friends and that reports of tension between them were way overblown.
“I just feel that, you know, Ariana and I were and are extremely close and very like-minded in a lot of different ways, and then, sort of, as the show dissolved, everybody wanted to find some sort of hidden meaning in our relationship and some drama,” McCurdy said.
The 22-year-old actress went on to say that any tension that did exist was just a natural result of long and difficult work schedules.
“We butted heads at times but in a very sisterly way. She knows me so well, and I know her so well, that I think it was unfortunate that things kind of got misconstrued…. There is certainly like a friend dynamic but then once you’re around that person for — I mean, ‘Carly,’ ‘Sam & Cat’ — once we didn’t have child labor laws we could work like 16 hours a day so you are around these people constantly and It’s just natural that you’re gonna have ups and downs. But you bond so much and you’re so close that you can’t go through that experience and… I can’t imagine a world where you would not come out extreme friends. I mean I have bonds with both Miranda Cosgrove and Ariana that are impenetrable.”
Ariana Grande has also taken on the reports that she is a diva , saying the scrutiny she has faced is unfair and unwarranted.
“It’s tough to spend some of the most important years of your life in front of so many strangers who want to pick you apart. Insecurity has been the hardest thing I’ve had to overcome. I think everyone my age struggles with that because everyone strives for approval and wants to feel loved,” she told Seventeen back in September.
Both Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy seem to be doing well for themselves after the rough ending for Sam & Cat . McCurdy is working on the television series Between, while Grande notched two No. 1 albums in the span of a year.
