Mission: Impossible 5 , the latest installment of the spy-oriented Tom Cruise franchise, is reportedly headed to theaters later this year. However, there are apparently a few issues plaguing the picture ahead of its July 31 release date.

Although no one associated with Mission: Impossible 5 has confirmed these rumors, the folks over at the Hollywood Reporter claim that Cruise’s upcoming cinematic endeavor has hit a serious speed bump behind-the-scenes. According to a source who is supposedly close to the situation, a few major players at Paramount aren’t exactly happy with the film’s finale. As a result, director Christopher McQuarrie is “scrambling” to fix the problem.

However, instead of having Mission: Impossible 5 screenwriter Drew Pearce address the problem, word on the Hollywood street suggests that an unnamed, uncredited writer will help fix the issues plaguing the fifth installment of the long-running franchise.

Of course, Paramount isn’t saying too much about the troubles lurking towards the end of the movie. In fact, one executive seemed to brush off suggestions that the film has hit a few snags just a few months before its theatrical release.

“Chris, Tom and a third person wanted to take a minute to get from what they thought was a good place to a more perfect place,” the source told THR .

But wait — there’s more. We Got This Covered noticed a recent tweet by none other than Christopher McQuarrie himself. While he doesn’t address the situation head-on, his post suggests that the Hollywood Reporter may have gotten its facts wrong.

While Mission: Impossible 5 is currently only a few months away, fans of the series don’t have too many details to pick apart as of this writing. Paramount hasn’t released a trailer for the flick just yet, but considering the movie is presently scheduled for this summer, chances are a trailer will arrive in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed.

M:I 5 reunites Tom Cruise with fellow special agents Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames, and Simon Pegg. Joining the action for this go-around are Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson, and Simon McBurney. The film also stars explosions, gunfire, and a plethora of stuntwork.

Are you worried about the fate of Mission: Impossible 5 ? Do these rumors suggest there are serious problems with the fifth installment of the franchise?
