Christoph Waltz won the Oscar for Best Actor In A Supporting Role for his turn in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained , his second nomination and second Oscar for a starring role in one of the filmmaker’s films.

Christoph Waltz won an Oscar previously — snagging an Academy Award for his portrayal of SS-Standartenführer Hans Landa in Tarantino’s previous effort, Inglorious Basterds.

Waltz’s Oscar win for Django Unchained echoes the previous one, as giant parallels exist between the two critically acclaimed Tarantino works.

Inglorious Basterds was a WWII holocaust revenge flick, whereas Django , in which Christoph Waltz’s Dr. King Schultz was the foil and giver of freedom to the titular Django, dealt with the issue of slavery and a retelling in which at least two slaves get a happier ending than most had.

As he accepted the award, Waltz first thanked his character for the second gold statuette, before thanking Tarantino and others for his second big Oscar win.

Reaction on Twitter to Christoph Waltz’s Best Actor In A Supporting Role for Django Unchained was very well received, with many saying the actor’s speech was humble and his win very well deserved for the flamboyant and relatable portrayal.
