Kam Chancellor Rumors: Holdout Extending Even Further

Kam Chancellor rumors have his holdout extending through Week 2. Chancellor will miss the Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers game on Sunday, September 20. A report from NFL confirms the All-Pro safety won’t be with the team this week, despite how much he is needed against a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers.

After losing to the St. Louis Rams in Week 1, fans had hoped that Chancellor would end the holdout and re-join his teammates. Nothing has progressed in the talks between his agent and the front office in Seattle, though, showing that neither side is giving in. The continuing situation has Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll very frustrated.

“I’m just disappointed, like (Chancellor) is and everybody is. He needs to come back in. We need to get him in.”

As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Chancellor has lost nearly $2 million from not showing up this season. He will lose another $267,000 in salary for missing the Week 2 game against the Packers. With no sign to this holdout ending in the near future, it’s possible that he could miss the entire regular season.

Kam Chancellor still has two more years on his current deal, so even if he misses the entire 2015 NFL season, the Seahawks will retain his rights. He simply has no bargaining advantage other than the argument that the team is weaker when he isn’t on the field. This is something many fans have pointed out on social media, and a reason that he continues to lose fan support.

A report from the Seattle Times pondered whether Chancellor would return to the team if it fell to 0-2 after playing the Packers. A former NFL agent that was interviewed for the story didn’t believe that would be the case. The agent stated that it was more likely that Chancellor would hold to his principles and that folding at this point would be viewed as “losing.”

Sports Illustrated published an extensive article in support of Chancellor getting a raise, covering at-length the opinion that some fans have of Chancellor being selfish. That word was mentioned numerous times in the article with examples like non-guaranteed contracts, the risks of injury while playing safety, and his talent on the field as reasons he deserves a nice raise. At the same time, SI addresses one of the key Kam Chancellor rumors, and it is that Seattle Seahawks’ general manager John Schneider cannot offer more money for fear of setting a precedent. Thus the holdout continues.
