New Hollywood met old-money Italian society as Jessica Chastain and Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo exchanged vows yesterday. Wearing a gorgeous, strapless gown, Jessica Chastain tied the knot with Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo at his family’s Italian estate. The Oscar-nominated actress and fashion executive have been in a relationship for the last five years.
Chastain’s Hollywood friends, including Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Edgar Ramirez, as well as several members of the Italian nobility and fashion societies, were on-hand to celebrate with the newlyweds.
The Daily Mail reported that the actress opted for a minimalistic look, wearing her red hair in a simple bun and forgoing flashy jewelry in favor of a small pair of earrings. Her vintage-inspired gown featured a fitted bodice and drop waistline. As for Jessica’s new husband, he stuck with the minimalistic theme, rocking a classic, blue suit with a white shirt.
Days prior to the wedding, Jessica, Gian Luca, and various family members and friends descended on Carbonera, Italy, in anticipation of the big day. Carbonera is the location of Villa Tiepolo Passi, where the couple swapped vows. The breathtaking estate has been in the Passi de Preposulo family since the 1800s.
E! News reported that Blunt, Hathaway, and Hathaway’s husband, Adam Schulman, were among the guests who arrived early. The stars dined with Jessica and Gian Luca at their rehearsal dinner on Friday night. Ramirez, Chastain’s Zero Dark Thirty costar, was also among the early arrivers.

While Jessica Chastain may be a Hollywood A-lister, Passi de Preposulo comes from Italian nobility. Gian Luca descends from a long line of counts and countesses. Gian Luca is also a major player in the Italian fashion scene. People reported that Gian Luca got his start in the fashion world at Armani, where he was the director of public relations. After learning the trade from one of the most respected names in the fashion industry, Passi de Preposulo moved on to French label Moncler. In addition to his large extended family, People reported that members of the Italian nobility and fashion scenes turned out to support the Italian-born groom , including Giorgio Armani’s niece, Roberta.

The wedding, which E! News’s source called “stunning” and “perfect,” comes only two years after Jessica Chastain told People that marriage wasn’t a big deal to her.
“I’m not quite sure of what I want in my life, and who knows if marriage is a part of it. So to me, marriage is not an important thing.”
Chastain and Passi de Preposulo had already been together for three years at the time of the interview. However, Chastain may have had good reason to be leery of marriage. Chastain grew up in what W Magazine described as “a bohemian household in Northern California by a single mother, who is a vegan chef.” Gian Luca grew up in what can only be described as the opposite of that.
“He’s a gentleman, and that’s very important to me. He’s from an old-school Italian family. No one in his family has ever been divorced!”
Chastain has been notoriously private since she arrived in Hollywood, using her social media accounts mostly for promotion of her various projects. However, Chastain has occasionally alluded to Gian Luca, slipping a snap of the duo onto her Instagram mixed in between promotional videos and press call photos. In February, the actress posted a vintage-looking photo to Instagram, giving her beau a Valentine’s Day shout-out.
While there’s no immediate word on the couple’s honeymoon plans, now would be a perfect time for Chastain to take a break from her busy filming schedule. The actress has two films in post-production and four films in the pre-production stage, including George and Tammy , where she will take on the role of country music legend Tammy Wynette.
