Megyn Kelly Gets No Apology As Donald Trump Defends ‘Blood’ Comments As ‘Appropriate’

Megyn Kelly should not expect an apology from Donald Trump anytime soon. The Republican presidential candidate is not backing down from his controversial post-debate statements and says his “blood” comments directed at the Fox News anchor were appropriate.

During an interview with Chuck Todd on Sunday’s Meet the Press , Donald Trump said he has no problem apologizing when he is wrong, but in this particular case, the presidential hopeful maintains his “blood” comments regarding Megyn Kelly were not wrong and he will not apologize. According to Trump, since Kelly’s questions during Fox News’ Thursday night debate were unfair, his statements were justified.

“There’s nothing to apologize (for). I thought she asked a very, very unfair question. So did everyone on social media and I answered the question very well. All I said is there is blood pouring out of her eyes and there was blood. And then I said you know what, I’m going to get on to the next sentence because frankly I don’t have to talk about the blood coming out of her ears and her nose. It’s a very common statement.”

Donald Trump has been under fire from both the media and members from within the Republican Party since Friday when he criticized the Fox News debate moderator to CNN’s Don Lemon, saying, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes; blood coming out of her everywhere.”

On Sunday, the Republican presidential candidate also explained to Jake Tapper, host of State of the Union , that he “cherishes women” and his comments in no way referred to menstruation. Only a “sick person” would think such a thing, according to Trump.

“Who would say that? Do you think I’d make a statement like that? Who would make a statement like that? Only a sick person would even think about that.”

Although Trump’s “blood” comments have caused quite the controversy, Megyn Kelly is taking it all in stride. In an interview on Sunday with Mediaite , the Fox News anchor took the high road by defending the questions she posed to the candidates during Thursday night’s debate and not singling out any of her critics, specifically Trump.

“If you can’t get past me, how are you gonna handle Vladimir Putin.”

Megyn Kelly explains the goal of her questions was to get the candidates “to drill down to their most vulnerable areas and then give them a chance to explain them” because these are issues that will definitely come up in the general election.
