Hugh Jackman is pretty excited about the upcoming The Wolverine sequel.
Although the actor teased that X-Men: Days of Future Past was the last time he’d play the iconic comic book character on the big screen, it was later announced that both Jackman and director James Mangold were working on a follow-up.
Hugh Jackman seems pretty excited about The Wolverine 2 . During his recent chat with Entertainment Weekly , the busy actor said Mangold is currently cooking up some really nifty ideas for the flick. However, he stopped short of revealing when the movie should arrive on the big screen.
“I was on the phone with Jim Mangold last night. There are some really cool ideas that I’m dying to tell you, but that would be giving away a secret that is not even [fully] formed yet,” Jackman explained.
The actor also revealed that he currently doesn’t have a Wolverine-related deal in place with 20th Century Fox. However, that doesn’t mean the Les Miserables star won’t come back for another adventure.
“I started with a two-picture deal on the first two [‘X-Men’ films], and from that point on, it’s been movie by movie — not just me, but Fox and Jim and everyone,” he told EW .
Deadline previously reported that James Mangold was recently hired to write a treatment for the next solo Wolverine flick. Beyond that, details about the story are kept under wraps for the time being. If Hugh Jackman is correct, then fans have plenty of reasons to get excited about the upcoming sequel.
The Wolverine made a tidy sum of money when it arrived in theaters over the summer. The $120 million follow-up to director Gavin Hood’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine grossed approximately $414 million worldwide during its theatrical run. The movie stands to make even more cash when the extended edition hits Blu-ray on December 3.
Hugh Jackman hinted around last month that his Wolverine days were possibly over. Considering the guy has played the character for over a decade, it’s not surprising that he’s getting a little tired of stepping into Logan’s shoes over and over again.
“Great parts always outgrow the actors that play them. If you forget that, it’s at your own peril. They are working on it [X-Men] now, and it would have to be very compelling for me to do it again. I’ve been doing it for 10 years,” he told The Guardian .
Although he didn’t feel compelled to do another Wolverine movie, it appears that Hugh Jackman and James Mangold are in the process of getting another flick off the ground. What do you think about the upcoming sequel?
