Charlie Puth might not be as well-known as some people in the music business. Maybe that’s because he is only 23-years-old. Another reason is that while he has some songs under his belt, he is a newcomer who gained some fame by posting original songs to his hit YouTube channel, CharliesVlogs.
Charlie belongs to a long list of young artists who have posted music on YouTube and became a big hit. He currently has over four million views and nearly half a million subscribers.
Puth is a pop singer and songwriter from New Jersey and is gaining more recognition because he is featured on the No. 1 song on Billboard’s top hits. He sings “ See You Again ” along with Wiz Khalifa on the Furious 7 soundtrack that is a tribute to Paul Walker at the end of the box-office hit. The single became a huge success internationally and in the United States. It recently moved from No. 10 to No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Hot 100. “See You Again” dethroned Mark Ransom and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” that had been No. 1 for 14 consecutive weeks and was heading toward setting a record for being on No. 1 longer than any song of the decade.
Charlie was asked to help write “See You Again” by his publishing company. It wasn’t hard to accommodate the Artist Publishing Group because Charlie had also lost a close friend in a car crash. He was thinking of his friend as he penned the words.
Charlie’s debut single, “Marvin Gaye,” was released last February and featured Meghan Trainor. He co-wrote “Slow Motion” for Trey Songz and has arranged sessions with Jason Derulo and Lil Wayne.
In April, Charlie released his second single from his upcoming album, I Won’t Tell a Soul .
Puth signed for Atlantic Records, but before then he was part of eleveneleven, a label started by Ellen DeGeneres that gives less known artists a chance for exposure. She actually looks for them on YouTube. That’s where she found Charlie Puth. Because of Puth’s relationship with Ellen, he appeared on her daytime talk show a couple of times. According to Billboard , he has left her label .
Radio reported that Puth will be extremely busy this summer. He is scheduled to go on tour with Meghan Trainor and Life of Dillon across the U.S. from July 3 to August 18. He will have a special performance at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on August 15.
