In what can be called not much of a surprise, the Weinstein Company is set to distribute Quentin Tarantino’s next film, The Hateful Eight , according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tarantino and the Weinstein’s have worked together on every one of Quentin’s films, starting with Reservoir Dogs all the way up through Django Unchained . The Weinstein’s were once associated with Miramax, but have since branched out on their own with the Weinstein Company, and have become one of the most influential distributors in film.

After someone leaked Quentin Tarantino’s script for The Hateful Eight , the quirky director went on a tirade, berating the inability for anyone to keep anything quiet in Hollywood and swearing he’d never make the film as a result. Tarantino went headlong into a legal battle with online site Gawker over the leak and it looked like the project was never to be, even though Quentin eventually dropped the lawsuit.

In May, however, instead of wrapping up the script and all details of the film tighter than ever, Quentin did the exact opposite. Tarantino staged a star-studded public reading of the script for The Hateful Eight . Longtime pals Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Tim Roth, Kurt Russel, Amber Tamblyn, Michael Madsen and others were all on hand to read through The Hateful Eight .

At that time, there was rumors that the film would indeed be shot and released “some time next winter,” though Quentin Tarantino would neither confirm or deny.

The next we heard about the film was when Quentin made an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. A fan asked Quentin Tarantino straight out if he was going to do The Hateful Eight or not? His astonishing reply, according to Collider:

“Yes, we are going to be doing The Hateful Eight. All for you. We weren’t sure about it but I just decided just now.”

And all of a sudden Tarantino’s project was back on. The director threw a spaghetti western-type trailer together to run in front of his friend Robert Rodriquez’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For . The film will start shooting in January, and be in theaters in the fall of 2015.

The Hateful Eight tells the story of a group of people shortly after the Civil War whose stagecoach gets diverted in snowy Wyoming. The film’s characters include two bounty hunters, a confederate soldier and a female prisoner in a saloon.

About the film, Harvey and Bob Weinstein released this short statement:

“We are incredibly excited to begin production on The Hateful Eight , as we know this picture will be as innovative, brash and of course fun as all Quentin projects prior. There is, quite simply, no other filmmaker like him, and we are as proud as ever to continue this partnership that started over 20 years ago.”

Considering how much money he’s made for them in the last two decades, the Weinstein’s clearly have a lot of well-placed faith in Quentin Tarantino.
