President Donald Trump is furious and making sure the world knows it. The 79-year-old began his Thursday by issuing a fiery attack on the Supreme Court via his Truth Social platform. “Kangaroo Court!!!” Trump wrote.
“We are the only Country in the World ST**ID enough to allow “Birthright” Citizenship!” he added.
However, despite the President’s claim, birthright citizenship is the rule in dozens of countries, including neighboring countries like Mexico and Canada.
The post came after a long and exhausting day of oral arguments over Trump’s executive order seeking to limit birthright citizenship to children of citizens or lawful permanent residents.

When Trump began his second term on January 20, 2025, he signed a series of executive orders, including one that prohibits granting citizenship to those born in the United States who do not have at least one parent who is an American citizen or has lawful permanent resident status.
According to The Daily Beast, the move is unprecedented and unauthorized by Congress. It directly contradicts the 1868 14th Amendment and over a century of federal court precedent affirming that anyone born in the United States is automatically a citizen.
The 14th Amendment states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. ”
Therefore, if the order takes effect, many people in America, including children and family members of undocumented immigrants or children of legal residents without permanent status, could be denied federal documents like passports confirming their citizenship.

Sitting before all nine justices, the 79-year-old was asked one of the most important questions: whether all children born in the country can continue to receive birthright citizenship.
The amendment excludes those born in the U.S. to foreign diplomatic officers, since they have diplomatic immunity and are not under U.S. jurisdiction.
Donald Trump was the first sitting president to attend an in-person Supreme Court hearing, where he remained silent while justices openly questioned the legal basis of his position.
According to Raw Story, most of the questions came from conservative justices who challenged the reasons behind overturning the historical amendment.
One of the known names was Trump appointee Amy Coney Barrett, who questioned the President’s lawyer, John Sauer, regarding his client’s understanding of the important legal issue.
“You say the purpose of the 14th Amendment was to put all newly freed slaves on equal footing and so they would be citizens,” Barrett said. “But that’s not textual. So how do you get there?”

Consequently, Justice Neil Gorsuch, also appointed by Trump, cross-questioned: “Do you think Native Americans are birthright citizens under your test?” The attorney replied, “I’ll have to think it through.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump left the hearing about 15 minutes after a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union began its case against the order.
Days before the hearing, Donald Trump took to Truth Social in a similar way and criticized the birthright citizenship case as he claimed the policy was originally intended to protect the “babies of slaves.”
Meanwhile, the decision for the case titled Trump vs. Barbara is due to be heard in June 2026.
