Six years after Jeffrey Epstein’s death, his brother still believes that his death was not a suicide. Mark Epstein shared his theory about how his brother died in a podcast interview, “Crime Stories with Nancy Grace.” And according to him, all signs point to a homicide cover-up rather than a suicide.
Jeffrey Epstein died in 2019, but Mark Epstein is still waiting for the true version of what happened on that fateful night in August 2019. He told Nancy that from the very first autopsy results, there were questions about the way that Jeffrey had died, stating that it said that the cause of death was “pending further study.” The death certificate initially did not rule out that it was a suicide.
Mark Epstein had hired his own pathologist to observe the New York City medical examiner during the autopsy, and both could not decisively say that Jeffrey Epstein had died by his own hand. Dr. Kristin Roman was the city pathologist, and Dr. Michael Baden was acting on behalf of the Epstein family, and they performed the autopsy the day after the financier was found dead.

Mark Epstein says the initial finding of “pending further study” proved to be an important observation because he later learned that the timeline of how quickly authorities turned around and said that his brother had committed suicide did not follow the usual pattern in similar cases.
Mark told Grace, “When I’ve spoken to a number of pathologists, they’ve always told me that if the death certificate says pending further study, you don’t get an answer usually for weeks or so because something’s being investigated, some studying is being done.” The property developer then stated, “That wasn’t done here.”
Apparently, Dr. Roman was unsure whether Jeffrey Epstein’s death was a suicide or a homicide, while Dr. Baden favored that it was the latter. But, just five days later, the chief medical examiner Barbara Samson (and Dr. Roman’s head), stated that after “careful review of all investigative information” Epstein had committed suicide. The ruling was official even though she didn’t elaborate on her findings.
Mark recalls that he realized that there was a “cover-up” when Bill Barr, who was the Attorney General at that point, said that he had “personally watched the videotape from outside” and that “he saw that nobody went in our out of the tier, and that convinced him it was a suicide.” This didn’t add up for Mark, and it became a pivotal moment for him.
His first doubt comes from, “Number one, I thought, why is the Attorney General personally watching the videotape? That didn’t seem realistic.” Secondly, “He completely ignored the possibility that if Jeffrey was killed, he could have been killed by somebody who was already on the tier,” Mark Epstein said.
He concluded, “So Bill Barr’s statement that nobody went in or out of the tier is based on nothing. And the fact that he ignored that somebody on the tier would have done harm to somebody makes his conclusion just ridiculous. And when I heard that, I said, he’s either part of a cover-up or he’s the stupidest guy on the planet. No, Barr is complicit in this cover-up.”

One of the main reasons that Mark Epstein doesn’t believe that his brother killed himself was because of the “scientific results of the autopsy.” He explained, “The angle of the mark on his neck is not what you would find if he were hanging the way they said he was hanging…”
Not only was the angle off, but there was another mark on the deceased’s body. “There’s like a bruise on his back, which is on the autopsy but has been ignored… by the DOJ report,” Mark said before continuing. “They think that’s a defensive wound. They think that there was a bit of a struggle, and Jeffrey was strangled, and the other things that will come out when these reports come out that will cement that,” he stated.
Of course, another mystery surrounding Epstein’s death is that a user on 4Chan posted about it 38 minutes before anyone else. Although they tried, the FBI could not even pinpoint who the anonymous user was who posted four messages including the initial “don’t ask me how I know, but Epstein died an hour ago from hanging, cardiac arrest. Screencap this.”
This person also provided info for one of the most persistent conspiracy theories around Epstein’s death. They said, “You guys I am shaking right now but i think they switched him out.”
Only one thing remains certain about Epstein’s death. Many people, including Mark, have questions because the given answers are not making sense to them.
