Second Lady Usha Vance is yet again under scrutiny. This time, she is being criticized by the co-hosts of ABC’s The View for compromising her personal convictions and religious identity in what they described as her pursuit of political power. The panel discussion, featuring Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar, centered on the perceived “hypocrisy” of the 40-year-old litigator following an interview with NBC News. The critique focused on the ideological and religious shift of the Vance family since 2014.

Behar characterized the Second Lady as being “addicted to power,” citing her former status as a registered Democrat. Behar further noted that both Usha and Vice President JD Vance previously held starkly different views of President Donald Trump. Hostin echoed the sentiments, questioning the stability of the couple’s values given their different faiths. She highlighted past remarks from VP Vance expressing his hope that his wife, who is Hindu, would eventually convert to Catholicism.

Hostin said, “One of the things that he said about his wife’s religion, she’s Hindu, he said, ‘I do hope eventually that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was… Honestly I do wish that, because I believe in the Christian gospel and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it that way.'”

Further noting, “[Usha] has said that her Hindu parents, she’s of Indian heritage, their Hindu faith is what made them great parents. She doesn’t want to separate from that. I think when your spouse is saying, ‘I want you to be a different religion,’ I don’t know. That’s something that is just very far apart to me.”

Behar chimed in, saying, “The whole political scene right now is weird…she was a Democrat until 2014. Her husband called Trump a moral disaster, and yet here they are kissing his b-tt every day. It’s unbelievable to me how many people have done a 180 on everything that they believed before for power and money.”

Hostin questioned, “Are you saying that maybe she has done that 180 so that her husband could also… for power?”

Behar replied, “Of course! She’s addicted to the power, also the perks.” Hostin stated, “So that feels like hypocrisy, because this is a smart woman. She is a lawyer, she is Yale-educated – I believe that’s where they met. This is a woman who had a life of her own and now all of a sudden maybe not so much.”

However, Moderator Whoopi Goldberg offered a rare defence of the Second Lady. Goldberg urged empathy for the pressures of public life, stating, “She’s got a lot of stuff on her mind. And one coming! Because, from what I recall – it’s been so long – that it is not an easy thing to carry these babies.”

This was in regard to SLOTUS’ earlier remarks in which she stated, “I do feel very comfortable in that no one has ever asked me to engage in any kind of litmus test on anything. And what I’ve found is that; I was myself in 2014 and I can be myself today. And I feel very comfortable in that world.’

“I don’t feel like I have to walk around pretending anything of any sort,” she continued. “I didn’t that I had to do that [in 2014], actually. Sometimes I have thoughts that fit very comfortably into one side or another. Sometimes I have views that are way more idiosyncratic.”

“Being a parent is hard under all circumstances…”

The discussion also touched on a viral moment from the NBC interview in which Snow appeared surprised to learn the Second Lady maintains a Costco membership and shops in jeans and t-shirts to maintain a sense of normalcy for her three children.

The Vances, who met at Yale Law School, announced in January that they were expecting their fourth child this spring.
