After a U.S. Park Police (USPP) officer was shot and suffered injuries on Monday night in southeast Washington, DC, two suspects were arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The department announced that 21-year-old Darren Foster and 22-year-old Asheile Foster of southeast DC have been taken into custody and are being charged with assault on a federal police officer with a gun. The suspects openly fired at the on-duty officer.
Derren was arrested on the day of the shooting, while his confederate Asheile was arrested the following day. The shooting remains under investigation.
I’ve spoken to Mayor Bowser and Police Chief Carroll and was briefed on the shooting. The @FBI, @DEAHQ, @ATFHQ, @USMarshalsHQ and all our partner agencies will assist Metro Police Department in any way we can.
Please pray for the officer’s recovery. https://t.co/SkYPq2vxuy

According to Fox 5 DC, the USPP officer was driving an unmarked white Tesla in the 5000 block of Queens Stroll Place in the southeast. He was reportedly undercover and a part of a team investigating a separate incident on park police property.
The two suspects approached the vehicle before firing several rounds at him. The officer luckily sustained non-life-threatening injuries in his upper body. He managed to get away by driving some distance when two other officers spotted him and provided aid. The officer was later flown to a hospital for further treatment.
The Park Police officer has since been discharged from the hospital. The Fox 5 report also suggests that the Police Department has been informed that the two suspects were aware of the undercover officer’s identity. However, they have yet to officially release a motive behind the crime.
Several neighbors have spoken of the incident, saying even though they did not see the shooting, they heard it loud and clear. Multiple eyewitnesses, including Brenda Bradley, revealed hearing a series of single shots, immediately followed by multiple rapid shots, seemingly caused by a semiautomatic weapon.

Brenda recalled, “The first gun was more like ‘pow, pow, pow,’ and that’s when we saw all of the police officers and cars and things like that.”
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser released a statement, saying, “Tonight, a member of the United States Park Police was shot in our community. The officer was taken by helicopter to a local hospital and treated for his injuries, which are thankfully non-life-threatening.”
“Our prayers are with the officer for a quick recovery, and we are grateful for all our law enforcement officers and first responders for their quick response.” She added, “We will share more information as it becomes available.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on X that she has spoken to the mayor and all “partner agencies will assist the Metro Police Department in any way we can.” She added, “Please pray for the officer’s recovery.”
