A Santa Clara, Calif., City Council meeting is going viral after an unidentified man wearing a full Batman costume unleashed a profanity-laced, anti-ICE tirade earlier this week.

With just 10 days remaining until Santa Clara hosts Super Bowl LX, federal officials — including those with the Department of Homeland Security — are expected to be present in the area. Local officials have suggested that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents could also potentially be in the region, though it remains unclear whether they would be stationed at the game itself or elsewhere in Santa Clara.

The possibility of ICE agents entering the community sparked backlash during Tuesday’s joint meeting of the Santa Clara City Council, Authorities Concurrent, and the Santa Clara Stadium Authority. While the meeting lasted more than three hours, much of the attention afterward centered on the man who arrived dressed as Batman.

The speaker wasted no time addressing the council, slamming his hands on the podium and asking, “What the [expletive] are we doing? Seriously?” Rather than adopting the gravelly voice popularized by actors such as Christian Bale or Ben Affleck, the man spoke in a normal tone as he expressed frustration with city leaders.

For more than two minutes, he criticized the council for what he described as a failure to prepare for a potential ICE presence during the Super Bowl. The NFL awarded Santa Clara — and the San Francisco 49ers — the right to host Super Bowl LX in May 2023.

The man accused the council — except for councilmember Kevin Park — of “allowing” the federal government to “walk all over” them.

“Look me in the eye,” he said. “Can any one of you go home to your children and tell them that you did everything you could to protect their classmates, to protect their grandparents, to protect them? I don’t think you can.”

Public speakers were allotted three minutes at the podium, with a timer displayed in the upper-right corner of the livestream. Throughout the remarks, the feed labeled the speaker as “Batman.”

“I’m not begging you,” he said. “I’m [expletive] demanding that you act with some semblance of a [expletive] spine. Do something.”

The New England Patriots are set to face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Levi’s Stadium. As of Jan. 29, the Seahawks are considered the odds-on favorites to win their first championship since the 2013–14 season, while New England is seeking its seventh Super Bowl title this century and its first since Tom Brady departed following the 2019 season.

President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will not attend the Super Bowl, citing travel reasons. However, he told Fox News’ Will Cain earlier this week that he believes the game will be a “tremendous” one. Although Trump did not formally pick a winner, it is worth noting that he has personal relationships with Tom Brady, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and former head coach Bill Belichick.
