Kamala Harris has broken her silence on the US’ military strike on Venezuela. On Saturday, January 3, 2026, Trump ordered airstrikes on Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, and its neighboring states to capture Nicolás Maduro.

The move was criticized by international leaders and Democrats, who called it unlawful. Former Vice President Harris has now joined the bandwagon and slammed Donald Trump for his questionable actions. But, people instead reminded her of her earlier posts criticizing Maduro.

With a lengthy post on social media, the 61-year-old highlighted that though Maduro was an illegitimate dictator, it does not justify military action against the nation, as US citizens have to pay the price eventually.

Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela do not make America safer, stronger, or more affordable.

Harris wrote, “That Maduro is a brutal, illegitimate dictator does not change the fact that this action was both unlawful and unwise. We’ve seen this movie before. Wars for regime change or oil that are sold as strength but turn into chaos, and American families pay the price.”

The politician added that the real motive behind the attack was not to deal with narcotics, as claimed by Trump, but to seize Venezuela’s oil reserves.

She pointed out that if the President actually cared about the drug issue, he would not have pardoned former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernandez, a convicted drug trafficker.

Harris penned, “This is not about drugs or democracy. It is about oil and Donald Trump’s desire to play the regional strongman. If he cared about either, he wouldn’t pardon a convicted drug trafficker or sideline Venezuela’s legitimate opposition while pursuing deals with Maduro’s cronies.”

Talking about the impact of the military operation on the US, Harris wrote that Trump is wasting money and destabilizing the Americas, which could have catastrophic results.

She stated, “The President is putting troops at risk, spending billions, destabilizing a region, and offering no legal authority, no exit plan, and no benefit at home.”

Harris concluded by writing that the US deserves a President who is more concerned about its citizens and their problems. She wrote, “America needs leadership whose priorities are lowering costs for working families, enforcing the rule of law, strengthening alliances, and — most importantly — putting the American people first.”

However, the post backfired as people were quick to remind Harris that the Biden administration had placed a bounty of $25 million on Maduro’s arrest in early January 2025.

The U.S. must immediately condemn Maduro’s violence against his own people. There is no excuse for this. The Venezuelan military and security forces must demonstrate restraint. Venezuelans deserve a free and fair election and a peaceful transition of power.

The value was $10 million higher than the original $15 million bounty announced during Trump’s first term. It was further raised to $50 million in August 2025 during Trump’s second term.

Furthermore, social media users also dug out an old tweet of Harris in which she had criticized Maduro and vouched for a transition of power in Venezuela.

The tweet dates back to 2019 when Trump was in power. At the time, Harris had demanded TPS status for Venezuelans and asked the President to show ‘moral leadership’ in the American hemisphere.
