President Donald Trump is a tough nut to crack. He’s ruthless, moody and pleasing him is quite a task. He’s very fond of Vice President JD Vance. Both figures have become a meme-worthy topic of discussion for the world. However, JD’s wife, Usha Vance, does not want her better half to mirror the habits of his boss or become too much like him.

Since both Vance and Trump spend a lot of time together, Vance has also made some controversial remarks like his boss and received public outrage on social media. Consequently, Donald Trump hasn’t really found a comfort zone with Second Lady Usha Vance either. He allegedly keeps her away from his inner circle.

Considering Trump has a lot on his plate with the pressure of resolving the ongoing government shutdown, followed by so much political unrest in the country, JD Vance also had his fair share of public backlash since he identifies himself as a core member of the cabinet.

Latest reports suggest that, amidst the turbulent political developments in the country, Trump has made several sly jabs at his vice president since naming him as his running mate. His latest comments suggest he’d prefer JD Vance to be a little less outspoken and a lot more intimidated.

At a November 5 breakfast meeting with senators about the government shutdown, Donald Trump took the stage. He started talking about China’s President Xi Jinping. ( according to  The List).

He called Xi “a tough man … very smart,” and described how Xi’s staff stood completely still and silent during their meetings. “I want my cabinet to behave like that,” Trump joked. “I’ve never seen men so scared in their lives.”

The 79-year-old then turned to JD Vance, who was sitting in the audience, Trump added with a laugh, “Why don’t you behave like that? JD doesn’t behave like that. JD butts into conversations.” He finished by saying, “We’ll keep you long-term, but a couple of days of that would be very, very nice.”

While the President’s remarks were lighthearted and funny, people say that there’s a bit of truth in every joke. Trump still remembers that JD Vance wasn’t always on his side during the early MAGA years. There are videos where JD Vance has claimed his dislike for the Republican candidate.

For example, in a 2016 New York Times op-ed, he stated, “Mr. Trump is unfit for our nation’s highest office.” Similarly, in another interview the same year with NPR, Vance said, “I can’t stomach Trump” and claimed that he thought that the republican candidate was leading the white class to a very dark place. Even though Vance rarely disagrees with him, it’s a known fact that the two men don’t always think alike and may have an underlying vendetta.

Moreover, even Usha Vance has been a critic of Donald Trump in earlier times, especially during the Capitol riot, where several people were affected. The incident led to Twitter banning Trump’s account forever, soon after which he launched Truth Social. Furthermore, Trump’s leadership style has always been dominant.

He’s straightforward and expects obedience from his administration, often accused of favoring subservience over independence within his inner circle. The same week that Trump made these stark comments, there was a massive “No King’s” protest across the country.

For readers unfamiliar with it, the ‘No Kings’ protest opposed authoritarian-style leadership. It took place on October 18, 2025, where people were gathered dressed in inflatable frog and dinosaur costumes with bold placards like “Democracy not monarchy.”

The biggest protest took place in Portland, where 500 people gathered in front of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office. The place has reportedly been a site of protest since June 2025.

So while Donald Trump’s comments got laughs, they also showed how he really feels. He probably wishes JD Vance spoke up less and agreed with him more. Maybe we should ask his wife, Usha Vance, how she feels about her husband being shamed publicly. That drama will be another article to write about! (sighs in relief).
