Robert Blake Jr., a Texan man whose parents have been the victim of the devastating flash flood happening in central and south Texas has come forward with his tragic story to the media. His parents, Robert Leroy Blake Sr. and Joni Kay Blake are still missing as they “were trapped inside a cabin at the HTR campground in Kerrville during the early hours of July 4 when sudden floodwaters carried the structure away”, as reported by The Mirror US.

Talking about the same, Robert said, “My folks got washed away in their cabin. We came down to help in the search efforts. Maybe not be able to find my parents under this tragedy, but maybe we can help somebody else find theirs and have some closure and peace.”

Robert’s parents happen to be among more than 160 people who went missing across central Texas over the July 4th holiday weekend as the flash floods hit. More than 110 people have been announced to be dead as of Tuesday evening.

Robert kept searching for his parents for four days with help from others but unfortunately remained unsuccessful in his search attempts. While he is not giving up on the hope of finding them, he has also slowly started to accept that perhaps his parents have been the victim of the inevitable outcome of this tragedy.

Robert said, “The Lord woke me up. He put me on my feet. He said go make a difference. If it means people being kind to each other… I’ll accept that. If that’s what it meant to lose my parents–– people to be kind to each other just one more day and love the Lord just a little more — I’ll accept that.”

It is important to note here that a flash flood warning was issued in Kerr County at 4:03 a.m. on July 4. Moreover, parts of the region faced 15 inches of rain, which was almost double the amount that had been predicted by the National Weather Service.

The Donald Trump administration’s decision to reduce workforce at the NWS has come under criticism and scrutiny as the flood situation keeps getting worse. The President, however, has not shown any accountability and rather dragged former President Joe Biden into the whole situation.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also opined that Democrats who are trying to blame the government’s decision regarding workforce slashing of the NWS are unnecessarily turning this tragedy into a political game.

While there can be no doubt that the government remains accountable in certain parts for a tragedy as massive as this, it now remains to be seen how the Trump administration handles the situation further and how many missing people are found.
