Socially, they have seemed distant, especially during his second term as commander-in-chief, and Trump’s joke about his marriage may be another sign that things aren’t as they say between them. He praised Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s wife when she heard the news of his attempted assassination last year. The praise came during the White House BBQ Friday event that was held for the signing of his new bill. It was a celebration of the smooth process for the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” despite it being criticized by many, including Elon Musk.
Trump went on to comment on how he has seen wives who don’t get concerned about their husband’s well being. He stated “that’s the kind of wife you don’t want.” Melania was sporting a wide smile when he said this and appreciated her colleague’s wife. This isn’t the first time she laughed off Trump’s jokes and comments.
Melania has been seen laughing when Trump discusses shortcomings or does something embarrassing. One of the recent situations was when Trump revealed how little the Kremlin considers the White House. He said Vladimir Putin, the Russian leader, treats his wife better than he does himself. So he jokingly tells on himself a lot while publicly speaking.

Meanwhile, Melanie was seen smiling or was she just hiding secondhand embarrassment as Trump was bragging about this. According to an author, she also laughed off when she was asked to join Trump’s campaign trail for the 2024 elections. Even after he won, Melania avoided the limelight, similar to what she did when he announced he would run for president again.
She skipped Trump’s hush money trial in New York and also missed out on the Super Tuesday primary election. However, after the assassination attempt, she talked about the situation in Milwaukee. She also accompanied him to the stage when he gave his victory speech in Florida. Moreover, she addressed the supporters at Madison Square Garden in NYC.
Till now her appearances have been strategic and she has shown up when it mattered the most. but according to journalist Michael Wolff, she did sneer at the thought of accompanying Trump to the campaign rallies. The White House has called Wolff a liar and a fraud who often fabricates stories, so we don’t know the truth behind his theories.

If we consider a body language expert, the distance between Trump and Melania has eventually brought them together. The two have a non-negotiable of holding hands in public. Maybe she laughed, hearing his hilarious take on how one’s wife should react when her husband is hurt. Despite his jokes and embarrassing remarks, she still stands by him.
