People are going wild with their reactions after Donald Trump made a major announcement about a UFC fight. On Thursday, the Republican President celebrated the passage of his massive spending bill, dubbed the Big Beautiful Bill. Speaking at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, he announced that he would like to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with an Ultimate Fight Championship match on the White House lawn.
This is part of his plan to mark the monumental moment for the nation, which he looks forward to celebrating through a string of events at various national parks and historic sites. “We’re going to have a UFC fight. Think of this – on the grounds of the White House,” Donald Trump told the rallygoers in Iowa.
“We have a lot of land there. We’re going to build a little – we’re not, Dana’s going to do it,” he added, referring to Dana White, the current CEO of UFC. He continued, “We’re going to have a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight – like 20,000, 25,000 people. And we’re going to do that as part of 250.”
Most people were stunned to hear that the two-time U.S. President plans on hosting a fight at the White House grounds. On X (formerly Twitter), Pennsylvania Capital-Star correspondent Nick Field wrote, “UFC fights on the White House lawn really feels like one of those 2015 Onion stories about a potential Trump Presidency.”
Jake Lahut, a senior writer for Wired, found it unbelievable, as he questioned, “Uhhh Trump just said there’s gonna be a UFC fight from the White House grounds?”

Daniel Baldwin, the chief White House correspondent for One America News Network commented, “Would be absolutely wild if he and Dana White pulled this off.”
Hedge Fund manager Spencer Hakimian took a jab at the administration on X. “Just how George Washington drew it up in his head,” he wrote. One of his followers echoed, “This sounds like an onion article.”
Another X user criticized the move, saying, “This is straight out of Idiocracy. I can’t be-fucking-lieve it.” The account for “Republicans Against Trump” added, “We’re rapidly becoming the laughingstock of the world.”
Although Donald Trump hosting a UFC fight at the White House was probably wasn’t in anyone’s trump cards for 2025, it isn’t surprising, given all the unexpected things he has managed to pull through so far since January.
