The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued a warning to travelers heading to the airport ahead of the U.S. Independence Day holiday about three unacceptable behaviors that might result in a ban from flying during the holiday weekend.

On Monday, TSA posted on its X account about three behaviors that “will not be tolerated” and carry fines of up to $13,910. TSA is warning of a “heavy rush of traffic” at airports across the United States as it gets ready for one of its busiest times of the year.

A photo of a sign displayed by TSA in the post on X read, “No threats. No verbal abuse. No physical violence of any kind. If you threaten, endanger, or harm Transportation Security Officers during screening, TSA will pursue criminal penalties and fines of up to $13,910. Thank you for your cooperation.”

As it prepares for a busy summer travel season, the organization also used its Facebook page on Monday to inform frequent travelers that these three behaviors are banned. “If you’re heading out for a summer vacation, that’s a time for fun and relaxation. Our teams are here to help make that happen by keeping your travel safe and secure,” the authority wrote on Facebook.

“TSA Officers across the country are working hard every day to keep skies safe during this busy #SummerTravel season (it’ll be especially busy during this 4th of July week). Harassment, threats, or physical violence will not be tolerated. These actions can lead to fines, removal from the airport, and yes, even arrest,” the post continued.

Our officers are working hard to keep skies safe during this busy #SummerTravel week. Harassment, threats, or physical violence will not be tolerated. Your safety is always our priority. “Know that your safety is always our priority. Respecting those who help make that happen – at your airport and on your airplane – is a must,” the post concluded. They issued the warning after finding a loaded handgun at Rochester, New York’s Fredrick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport.

At a security checkpoint on Thursday, June 19, the handgun was discovered in a traveler’s carry-on bag, according to the TSA. The gun contained five bullets in the cylinder and was a.38 caliber revolver.

Things that should get you on the no-fly list:

-inability to efficiently move through TSA
-blocking the entire moving walkway
-crowding the gate before your boarding group
-listening to your phone w/o headphones
-standing as soon as the plane gets to the gate

The second handgun discovered at Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport in 2025, according to TSA, is this one. Brian Bushnell, TSA’s Acting Federal Security Director for Upstate New York, said, “I am extremely proud of our TSA officers who are committed to maintaining the safety of our transportation systems and the traveling public.”

“Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms; however, they must be unloaded, packed in a locked hard-sided case, and declared at the airline check-in counter. All firearms must be transported in the belly of the aircraft, where they are inaccessible during the flight.”
