The 31-year-old Georgia woman kept alive despite being brain dead, gave birth to her son on June 13. Adriana Smith’s son Chance was born via emergency C-section. He weighs 1 lb and 3 oz. He is being kept in the NICU for now. The life support was removed on the fourth day after the surgery. When she went to the hospital in February this year, she was declared brain dead due to a brain clot.

Since she was pregnant, the doctors had to keep her alive on life support due to Georgia abortion laws. Adriana’s mom states that her grandson Chance is expected to be okay and is fighting. She wishes for just prayers for him now that he’s here. On the other hand, this was a losing battle for Adriana since she was already brain-dead.

Many people online claimed she was just being used as a human incubator, and the state abortion laws let this medical experiment go on. Supporters and family members go to watch the funeral which was live-streamed from the Fairfield Baptist Church. Several viewers tuned in to show tribute. This case became popular due to the current state of abortion laws and the unpredictability around them.

Adriana’s sister stated she was thankful for the time she spent with Adriana and what she taught her. She called her kind, and full of wisdom. Her sister wants to follow in her footsteps when it comes to family, as it means everything to her. According to the state abortion laws, there’s a ban on abortion after 6 weeks of pregnancy. So Adriana had to be kept alive.

No abortion is allowed post fetal pole detection. It is administered only in cases where pregnancy is medically unviable. Adriana had multiple blood clots in her brain while she was nine weeks pregnant. Adriana was on life support for four months as doctors declared her pregnancy to be no longer a threat to her life.

NEW: Adriana Smith’s family shared this with us today. They show her final moments on life support, and a tragic goodbye with her son Chase.

The family was entirely heartbroken over her final moments. They shared the video while saying goodbye to her. Adriana’s mother was severely impacted by her death, saying she should not be burying her daughter; rather, her daughter should be doing that. She called her a great daughter. Many netizens have come forward in support of Adriana and Smith’s family ever since the news came out.

Pop singer Olivia Rodrigo also posted how the woman deserved better. A GoFundMe was set up to raise $499,000 for the family, which is already $460,000.
