Georgia Congressman Buddy Carter has officially nominated former President Donald J. Trump for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. It has sparked passionate debate across the political spectrum. The nomination was submitted to the Norwegian Nobel Committee. It praised Trump’s role in brokering a tentative ceasefire between Iran and Israel. A ceasefire, which he had announced just days earlier, yet was broken by both countries within minutes.
Carter described Donald Trump’s actions as “historic.” He has praised him for having “the courage and clarity necessary to de-escalate a nuclear standoff.” Though there were ceasefire violations by both countries soon after the announcement, the congressman insisted that it was Donald Trump’s intervention and leadership that brought this critical situation to a halt.
Carter’s nomination letter stressed Donald Trump’s “extraordinary diplomatic influence.” The letter also claims that without his involvement, the Iran-Israel dispute would not have been solved and may have led to a full-fledged war.
Donald Trump reportedly arranged talks behind closed doors and then persuaded both countries to agree to put a halt to increasing tension in the Middle East. The proposal also follows Trump’s praise from Pakistan earlier this year. During a conflict between India and Pakistan, it was stressed that the ceasefire was achieved due to the intervention of President Donald Trump.
India says the ceasefire with Pakistan happened because Pakistan requested it — not due to any deal with U.S. or a trade agreement.

However, New Delhi vehemently opposed this claim. India has made it clear that there was no intervention from the US, and a ceasefire was achieved due to talks between the country’s military leaders. Yet, Pakistan had praised Trump’s attempt at peace and showed their support for the Nobel Peace Prize. Though Pakistan has now withdrawn its support after the US bombed Iran, Carter is still using that dialogues as a fair assessment of Trump’s negotiating power.

During the whole ceasefire debate, Donald Trump was confident that Iran and Israel would listen to him. He is also confident of winning the Nobel Peace Prize. On Truth Social, he mentioned earlier accomplishments, such as the Abraham Accords and diplomatic outreach to Africa, as additional reasons for the Nobel. “They should’ve given it to me a long time ago,” he said, “but they only like left-wing leaders.”
This nomination has ignited a firestorm online. Donald Trump’s supporters are hailing the move as a long overdue honor. “He ended wars, he kept the world stable,” one person remarked. “Of course, he deserves the Nobel.”

Critics were also quick to respond. They argued that the Trump administration’s aggressive rhetoric and airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities may have contributed to the larger conflict that he now claims to have resolved. Others criticized the selection as a “publicity stunt,” saying that Carter and Trump have an old friendship, and that is why he nominated Trump.
Foreign policy analysts are divided on the issue. Some have complimented Trump’s ability to influence discussions, while others have emphasized the lack of long-term planning for this quick bandage solution.
Critics fear that the truce may be more of a temporary stop in hostilities than a long-term solution. As the Nobel Committee deliberates in the coming months, Trump’s nomination will serve as both a symbol of bold diplomacy and a theatre of peace brokerage in a world that is constantly on war.
