Luigi Mangione‘s cellmate who was staying with him temporarily has posted a video talking about him. He has shared his demeanor, daily habits and prison job. Despite being accused of killing the UnitedHealthcare CEO, Luigi is celebrated by the public. His actions were against the predatory healthcare practices that many Americans agree on.
Mangione’s cellmate, Michael Daddea uploaded a video on June 7 about his interactions with him. They were in the same cell for two days at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center. The Sunset Park detention center told him about his cellmate and he was in disbelief on their pairing.
Their first iteration was nice as Luigi introduced himself by asking “Hey. How’s it going?” The video was deleted this week after it gained 80 thousand views online.
Mangione is the alleged shooter who killed Brian Thompson, the United Healthcare CEO. Despite an alleged criminal status, he is called a hero on social media. Even in jail, he’s a celebrity, and inmates know who he is. People are comparing him to James Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano from the show, saying he’s the only hero. One reason he’s being deemed a hero is how Americans react when a person takes on the system despite the violence, and they are celebrated.
According to Daddea, the two became friends quickly. Their stay together was just for two nights. There was also a third cellmate that they nicknamed V. When he met Mangione, he told him what an honor it was to meet him. Mangione told them they were the first ones to approach him and even care about him. Daddea assumed this may be due to them seeing another white kid and finally getting acquainted.

Coming to Mangione’s job in jail, he was cleaning showers, and running around the unit to find newspapers. Mangione wanted to see what the newspapers had written about him. Daddea used to help him look for the articles. In prison he’s quite popular as his lawyer says he’s a model prisoner.
He has spent 175 pre-trial detention days in jail. Daddea tells Mangione is like a collie who is basically a unit boss telling others what cells they go to. So he’s a collie who’s cleaning showers for now. He also says they had the meal together before he got a $250,000 bail on March 7. He was in jail for 3-D printing more than 25 ghost guns. They usually sat together and spent time together.
Luigi Mangione was reportedly celebrated as a “hero” within the prison walls. Inmates were captivated by his presence and extended him warm gestures.
His fellow inmates have shown support and even helped him get a “glow up” before extradition:

A priest blessed them all on Ash Wednesday by drawing crosses on their foreheads using charcoal. During his stay in the jail, Mangione has received several letters and books mailed and he said he was grateful for that.
He communicated via electronic message that he was thankful for the support. He also enjoyed the prison’s music catalog, Ray’s bbq sauce and Chicken Thursdays.
