The ongoing rift between Elon Musk and Donald Trump is full of threats and big allegations. Elon has accused Trump of being named in the Epstein files, saying that is why the documents are still sealed.
To this, Trump called him ‘CRAZY’ and said that he acted out because of an update on the EV mandate. Moreover, Elon was also upset over the “big, beautiful bill” saying how it’ll undo all the work he did with DOGE.
Trump went on to take away government funding from Elon as a way to save on federal spending. Elon responded by threatening to decommission the Dragon. SpaceX Dragon is an integral part of the International Space Station and NASA. It is used to deliver cargo to space and transport astronauts. Without the program, NASA will be in trouble, and the lives of several astronauts will be threatened.

There was no stopping the two until an X user asked the two to cool off, saying you’re better than this. Elon took this post as an opportunity to say that he won’t decommission the Dragon. Even hedge fund titan Bill Ackman posted on X, urging the two to reconcile. He believes the two can be stronger together instead of being apart. All this pleading has helped Elon see the bigger picture and not take any decision in haste.
Musk replied that Ackman isn’t wrong here. This was the start of his softening up amidst the rift. Without a truce, the two will keep going at each other and result in a never-ending bitter feud. The two billionaires are, of course, stronger together, helping each other for the country’s good. These two fighting publicly like this is truly a shame.

There were talks of seizing SpaceX from Musk as suggested by former senior advisor Steve Bannon. This may have prompted Elon to soften up. Also, the Defense Production Act does not clarify the seizure of the private companies by the president.
Over the years, SpaceX has received more than $17 billion from the government. NASA and the defense department has given Elon’s SpaceX funds to ensure development of important crafts. The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft is a reusable spacecraft to carry cargo and astronauts to space. It’s developed along with NASA commercial crew program.
The craft has three variants 1, 2 and XL. The Dragon XL is not operational yet and its future is unknown with the current rift going on. Even Tesla got a billion dollars for further development from the government. The fallout between Trump and Elon threatens both SpaceX and MAGA administration.
At this point, the two making up and focusing on amending their relationship will work in favor of the country. Elon agreeing to cool down and not decommission Dragon is a step in the right direction.
